Vannacht zijn de eerste resultaten binnengekomen vanuit Iowa. Ron Paul staat op 10% bij de Republikeinen, zo'n 40% boven het gemiddelde van alle polls. Van de independents, een belangrijke groep die beslissend is voor de verkiezingen, heeft 29% voor Paul gekozen, vóór McCain (23%). Dit gaat een grote rol spelen op 8 januari in New Hampshire.
